Kitchen Island and Countertops
These are professionally-manufactured Hard
Maple Butcher Block tops, that have been sanded and finished with a
food-safe clear finish. They are 1-1/2" thick with square
edges, and the wood grain is oriented so that you see edge-grain on the
top surface, which is a great-looking surface for a butcher block!

The top color will usually be a mixture of
heartwood and sapwood, so you can expect a variety of light-browns and
whites. The clear finish is very durable and will repel most
household solvents, however, it can be scratched... so treat it like a
piece of furniture if you want it to shine. If you wish to
use it as a chopping block, it is OK to cut on this finished surfaced,
because it is approved for food service use. This can easily
be re-finished by sanding off the finish, and re-applying the food-safe
gel finish. We also offer that in pints and quarts.
NOTE: Only the top
surface and edges are sanded smooth. The bottom surface has
the same food-safe finish, but not sanded as smooth as the top surface.
Shipping
Only the smaller tops can be shipped by UPS Ground. These can usually be sent within 5 business days.
We add wood strips all around the edges, and cardboard cushioning to
both faces, to protect from denting during UPS handling.
For FREIGHT shipping of larger tops, we schedule pick-ups on Mondays and
Fridays. Please allow 5- to 7 business days for FREIGHT
shipments, because these require scheduling a time for us to wait for a
truck to arrive at our warehouse.
